All attendees at Masquerades & Massacres are expected to make at least some effort towards historical costuming. Here are some very very basic guidelines on Regency Costume- please feel free to discuss costume further on the forum. Costume that exceeds these guidelines is encouraged - don't think you have to slavishly abide by them if you have more historically accurate kit. There are photos from our first event There are photos on on Flickr. Ladies - Gentlemen - Officers
Ladies
Ladies should at a minimum wear long dresses or skirts, and cover their shoulders. Ideally dresses would be high-waisted. Trousers are very indecent!
Ladies - Gentlemen - Officers
Gentlemen
Gentlemen should at a minimum wear black, white or grey trousers or shorts (but if you're wearing shorts you should wear long socks- no bare legs!); white collared shirts; waistcoats; dark jackets (white tie or morning suit jackets are best, but any jacket will do); black shoes or boots; and a cravat- we'll make sure we have spare white cotton to wrap around people's necks if they don't bring their own. Ladies - Gentlemen - Officers
Officers
Male officers should wear black, white or grey trousers or shorts; white collared shirts; military-style jackets; black shoes or boots; and a white cloth cravat- we'll make sure we have spare white cotton to wrap around people's necks if they don't bring their own.
Female officers should try and combine military and female clothes- maybe a dress with military-style frogging and buttons? Or a military-style jacket over a more conventional dress? Note that trousers would be a very inappropriate and deeply shocking choice of clothing! |
